The event featured presentations from more than 50 of Korea's leading companies, including LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, LS Electric, Hanwha Aerospace, and Hyosung Heavy Industries. It was attended by more than 1,000 practitioners and managers, including corporate researchers and engineers, who shared 75 diverse examples of real-world applications of artificial intelligence (AI), data, simulation, and cloud computing under the theme of "Accelerating Digital Transformation."

The first speaker, Dr. Ming Zhou, chief engineer at Altair and executive committee member of the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, presented "Multiphysics Simulation and Design Optimization."

"The engineering of a product involves a variety of physical performance measurements, including structural, fluid, and thermal, and managing these multiphysics simulations efficiently is always a challenge," said Dr. Zhou. "Altair makes it easier to optimize complex engineering processes on a single platform, which can significantly improve work efficiency."

Wonhyuk Lee, Director, Hankook Tire & Technology

A presentation by Wonhyuk Lee, director of Hankook Tire & Technology, explored "New Tire Technology Development and Simulation Techniques for Autonomous Mobility Application."

"Even in the era of autonomous vehicles, unlike sensor products that complement each other's roles, tires are non-redundant components, so there is a growing need for safety technology that can prevent tire-related accidents from occurring in the first place. Therefore, airless tires, which are highly safe and easy to maintain, will be applied more and more," said Lee. "As it is important for airless tires to distribute the load evenly on the structure and ensure driveability on a variety of surfaces such as sand, mud, gravel, nails, glass, and slopes, we used simulation techniques to optimize the design and develop the product in a short time."

Yongyeon Kim, team leader of the VS business division of LG Electronics, gave a presentation on "Direction of Scalability from Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) to Data-Driven Analysis." Altair signed an MOU with LG Electronics to build a simulation automation platform, and in late 2022, Altair and LG Electronics built an AI platform to verify the performance of automotive components for the digital transformation of the electronics industry.

"Automotive electronics components are evaluated by a combination of various design factors such as the number of screws, materials, tolerances, size, and weight," said Kim, a team leader in charge of the digital transformation project. "Can we visualize and quickly monitor various data? We developed the platform with Altair to address these concerns, such as whether collecting and analyzing more data would enable more accurate performance predictions. We are now developing our products quickly and efficiently with data-based performance predictions."

"Megatrends such as electrification, simulation with AI, semiconductors, and cloud are all closely related to digital technologies," said Songsoo Moon, senior vice president of Asia Pacific, Altair. "Altair has accumulated a lot of know-how and technology in digital transformation and digital twins over the past nearly 40 years, and we are the only company to bring artificial intelligence to all of them. We will accelerate the delivery of integrated environments and platforms to make complex engineering processes easy to use on one platform."
